Day 4
Today a field trip to do some brush clearing at Dokum Mskoda was cancelled due to inclement weather and rescheduled for next Thursday. The interns did, however, still have a "lunch and learn" where sustainable landscapes coordinator Cyndi provided us with some details about clearing Buckthorn. She also gave us an overview of some outdoor conservation projects and restoration work. Among the topics covered was the threat invasive species pose and the importance of native plants. We learned to think about sites not just in terms of their present conditions, but to also consider the natural history behind the land and the potential for the future. We've also been hard at work on our respective projects, taking the occasional break to put together signs for Conservation@Home.

Day 3
After a nice weekend and an extra day off due to the weather, we came back for our third day. The morning was pretty chilly here! The interns met more people and started the day off by meeting with Nathan the associate director along with a board member here at Conserve Lake County. The meeting consisted of filling the interns in on what their jobs were, giving them advice on their future careers, and getting distracted by deer in the windows. The rest of the day was devoted to warming up and working on our projects. We are excited to see what the rest of the week will bring!

Day 2
As a day of education and puns, the interns’ second day has
been an overall success. We have made progress on our individual projects. We
have been briefed on upcoming work. And then we brought it together around the
lunch table, as I begin my barrage of puns. It makes sense that at Conserve
Lake County, my puns are blooming of late and are remaining sustainable. Later
on, Conner and I walked around the immediate area. Aside from the snow we had
to go through, we saw Shagbark Hickory, Buckthorn, and a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
But to end day two, we will make a video that will showcase our efforts. I only
wonder how many puns I will come up with during the next two weeks.

Day 1
The internship has begun! These next two weeks will hopefully be very fun and educational, giving the four interns here real world experience while helping to conserve the county that we love. The people that we have met are fantastic and the immediate future looks incredibly promising! Here's to hoping we can find a way to make a difference!
